(1776 Channel) Former President Barack Obama’s official Twitter account remains inactive seven hours after a former Bernie Sanders campaign volunteer attempted to assassinate Republican members of Congress practicing for an upcoming charity Congressional baseball game.
The shooting, which happened in Alexandria, Virginia, wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (LA-R) and four others, including a Capital Police officer and a congressional aid.
President Obama, who made gun control a center piece issue of presidency, was often quick to politicize shootings. His last tweet is dated June 2, 2017.

The shooter, identified as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Illinois, is dead.
