UPDATE August 21st 4:05 pm E.D.T.

Asymmetric Solutions announced yesterday via Twitter that the company completed their “escort detail augment” mission in the Ferguson, Missouri area, followed up today by a lengthy statement on their Facebook page in which the private military contractor confirmed that their unidentified client was a member of the media.

“We were recently contacted by a professional investigative journalist that some of our ranks have previously escorted into highly dangerous combat zones. This individual requested that we escort their small group into Ferguson, Missouri to view the ongoing issues for future commentary. We took this individual in and out of the area safely without incident…

…We strongly support The US Constitution and have sworn an oath to it. The First Amendment Rights to assemble and speak and print are not limited to only pretty, popular, or mainstream opinions. They are among the most sacred things that are to be protected by Government. A free society is not always a convenient or easy society.” – Asymmetric Solutions via Facebook

The company also used their Facebook statement to reflect on media coverage of the Ferguson riots. “The metro area is our home and we believe the coverage of St. Louis and this incident by major media is fueling the issue unnecessarily for their own benefit.”

Through Twitter, Facebook, and an exclusive statement to 1776 Channel, Asymmetric Solutions expressed surprise that, from their perspective, conditions on the ground were less chaotic than portrayed by much of the media. It is unclear if their team toured the area alongside their client only during the day, or were present on the streets during overnight hours, when unrest has tended to increase.

The contractor’s personnel assigned to the mission found that most protesters were peaceful and simply wanted to tell their stories. “It seems a few bad actors are being treated as the whole.”

Following the flurry of media attention on Asymmetric Solutions after the 1776 Channel first broke the Ferguson contract story, the company acknowledged on Facebook that “we normally do not comment on this side of our work”.

Asymmetric Solutions Twitter "job complete"

UPDATE August 20th 9:20 pm E.D.T.

1776 Channel spoke to a staff member with Asymmetric Solutions this afternoon who made the following statement:

“It’s sad to see what’s happening to a great city. Our duty was very simple. We provide bodyguard service all over the country and overseas. A private citizen came to us that was concerned for their safety traveling to the area. What we found during our tour was that things were not as bad as they were portrayed in the media. The person who came in hopes that they can calm the situation somewhat.” — Jack, Staff Member, Asymmetric Solutions

UPDATE August 20th 11:12 am E.D.T.

Asymmetric Solutions has posted three additional tweets in an attempt to clarify their mission in the St. Louis, Missouri area while remaining coy about the client identity. The operation is for “escort detail augment for individual”.

“To clarify we are not protecting state, law enforcement or those exercising their right to assemble. Escort detail augment for individual” stated a 3:16am tweet today on the contractor’s twitter account.

“We are saddened that such service is needed in what is normally a peaceful, harmonious metropolitan area full of good people” stated an immediate follow-up tweet.

The third tweet was especially cryptic: “And we will make sure not to deploy anyone to a spelling bee.”

It is unclear if “spelling bee” is a reference to federal alphabet agencies or national news outlets, or is meant to convey something else.

Reported Earlier:

ST. LOUIS August 20, 2014 — Missouri-based private security contractor Asymmetric Solutions, which employs elite former U.S. military special operators, tweeted Tuesday afternoon that the company is deploying a “high threat team in our own city”.

When responding via Twitter to a request for information, a spokesperson said “we cannot professionally hand out that information, regardless of client or location. We put a security team of former SOF personnel into the STL area at the request of a client.”

The entire tweet reads “We’ve been to Baghdad, Kabul, KL, Manilla, Peshwar, Bogata. Never guessed we would deploy a high threat team in our own city. #furgeson”.

Asymmetric Solutions employs former U.S. Navy SEALs and Army special operators.
